What is Chiropractic? The primary goal of chiropractic care is directed towards maintaining, improving, restoring and enhancing the health of the patient through the use of chiropractic adjustments and related therapies. Treatment is often directed to areas of soft tissue injury or decreased movement in the joints of the body, particularly the spine, which can create a reaction in surrounding tissues, ligaments, muscles, and nerves.
Chiropractic therapy is any treatment techniques that can help restore health and function in the neuromusculoskeletal system. Treatments may include soft tissue therapy, manual therapy, mobilization, manipulation, electro stimulation, ultrasound therapy and laser therapy. Additionally, Chiropractors encourage health promotion through exercise, dietary and nutritional counseling, and lifestyle consulting. Chiropractors assess and diagnose disorders and dysfunctions of the neuromusculoskeletal system related to the spine and extremities and provide treatment, rehabilitation and where possible, prevention of those disorders. This holistic approach is done without the use of drugs or surgery. What types of conditions can be treated? There are many reasons to seek chiropractic care. Some of the conditions we treat include:
The Initial Visit |
We have a wide variety of pain relief modalities including: Therapeutic Ultrasound, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Inferential Current Therapy (IFC) and Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT). These treatments are all beneficial when acute or chronic injuries occur.
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)/ Inferential Current Therapy (IFC)
TENS/IFC can aide in the healing process of acute and chronic conditions, as well as increasing muscle stimulation to prevent or recover from muscle atrophy. Muscle spasm, joint pain and swelling can also be decreased through electrotherapy. This type of stimulation can play an important role in the re-education of muscle groups to retrain and improve muscle function and strength. Both TENS and IFC are palliative treatments that utilize electric microcurrents for long-term intractable pain and post-operative and post-traumatic periods of acute pain. Both procedures are harmless and effective substitutes to pharmacologic treatments to control pain.
Ultrasound Therapy
Therapeutic ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves that enter the body and travel through underlying tissue by absorption, reflection and refraction. There are three primary benefits to ultrasound. The first is to increase the rate of healing by increasing the blood flow into the affected area. The second is a decrease in pain from the reduction of inflammation. The third is a gentle massage of muscles, tendons and ligaments in the affected area, no strain is added and any scar tissue is softened. These three benefits are achieved by thermal and non thermal effects. Thermal effects are due to the absorption of the sound waves and non- thermal effects are from the vibration of the tissue enhancing metabolic activities of the cells. This physical high frequency mechanical vibration stimulation enhances cellular tissue repair, especially in soft tissue injuries.
Conditions for which ultrasound treatment may be used include, ligament sprains, muscle strains, tendonitis/tendonosis, joint inflammation, plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, facet irritation, impingement syndrome, bursitis, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and scar tissue adhesion.

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)
Cold Laser Therapy or Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a treatment that utilizes specific wavelengths of light to interact with tissue to help accelerate the healing process. Once the light energy passes through the layers of skin and reaches the target area, it is absorbed and interacts with the light sensitive elements in the cell. This process can be compared to photosynthesis in plants - plants absorb sunlight, which is then converted to usable energy so that the plant can grow.
Low Level Laser Therapy works by delivering billions of photons to the tissue surface driving this energy down to the damaged cells that use this energy for tissue repair. When cells absorb this light energy, it stimulates vasodilation, lymphatic drainage and regulates the sodium-potassium pump, which initiates a series of events in the cell that result in normalizing damaged or injured tissue. This results in decreased inflammation, decreased pain, an increase in tissue regeneration and healing.
